Gabicce Mare

Gabicce Mare
Gabicce Mare is an ideal goal for nature-lovers: the sea, a safe beach, Gabicce Monte cape, San Bartolo Park, Baia Vallugola, beautiful panoramas and possibility of underwater immersions. This colourful, party-party resort on the Romagna border of the Marche is in many ways an extension of the Rimini Riviera to the north.
Gabicce Mare is one of the Marche’s busiest holiday spots: between the hill and the sea, you can find hotels of every dimension and category, ideal for every tourist requirement.
Along the winding coast road you’ll have impressive views and a handful of charming coves and good-value fish restaurants – our favourite spot is the romantic little port at Baia Vallugola.
Few steps from Cattolica, Gabicce Mare offers night fun occasion with the famous Baia Imperiale disco. It’s also just a short trip to visit the impressive castle at Gradara and the tiny Republic of San Marino.
History of Gabicce Mare
In Roman times there are records of trade exchange in the area, probably connected to Valbruna, an ancient town that according to the legend is underwater in the Baia Vallugola, where now and then ancient items are found by fishermen.
Gabicce Monte was a medieval castle, whose lord in the 11th century was a Ligabitio who probably left his name to the place. The castle was under the influence of Pesaro, then in 1539 became a fiefdom of Orazio Floridi from Fano. A census of 1686 gave a total 337 inhabitants. Another lord of the place was Ottavio Mamiani, then it came under the influence of the Church State, until in 1860 was included in the Kingdom of Italy.
In the early 20th century the seafront settlement (Gabicce Mare) began to grow and a fishing economy developed, then after the Second World War the townhall was moved to Gabicce Mare, which underwent a striking tourist development.
